Problems connecting to Bluetooth devices using a DT Research Tablet

Extra steps may be required when connecting a DT Research Windows 10 tablet to certain Bluetooth devices (mainly Geomax and Leica total stations or long range Bluetooth antennas).

When connecting to a total station adjust the communications settings in the instrument to use the desired connection method (i.e. internal Bluetooth or Bluetooth handle such as ZRT82 or RH16). Refer to the user manual for instructions on changing these settings on you specific instrument.

1. On the Tablet open the Windows Control Panel and go to Add a Bluetooth Device

2. Search for any devices (ex. ZRT82). It should tell you that it was successfully installed/added
      - If you are prompted to set up a pairing code choose yes to "create a pairing code"

3. Open the Devices List (Devices and Printers) from the Windows Control Panel. You should see the device listed

4. Right click (hold down) on the device icon to open the Properties

5. Switch to the Hardware tab > Properties > Port Settings. Make note of the outgoing port number and settings (ex. COM port 11)

6. Exit out of all open windows

7. Open the system tray (small arrow beside the clock in the windows task bar)

8. Right click (hold down) on the Bluetooth icon to bring up the properties and choose "Turn Adapter Off"

9. Restart the tablet

10. Log in and open the Windows Control Panel > Device Manager

11. Expand Bluetooth Radios

12. Right Click (hold down) on Bluetooth Radios and re-enable.

13. Open FieldGenius and try to connect, use the COM port and other settings listed in Step 5.

Test this by closing/reopening FieldGenius and trying to re-connect.
