Creating Surfaces with Elevations Close to Sea Level

If you have elevation values close to sea level (0 elevation) you may notice you have trouble creating a surface. This is because MicroSurvey has a default elevation filter that prevents inclusion of any entity below 2 units during the creation of a surface. Since text and 2D entities are usually drawn at zero elevation this filter is helpful in most cases. BUT if your dataset includes elevations that are close to sea level you will want to make some adjustments:

Follow these steps to ensure all your points are used when creating a surface.

1) Under the Model ribbon go Configuration Settings

2) Then select the Data Extraction options

3) Then uncheck the Filter by Z and check the Filter by Entity

4) Then when you extract points to the surface, you will have the option to choose points

Continue to build your surface like you would normally

You may also need to generate contours that are below 2 units in elevation. If that is the case, please make another adjustment:

1) Under the Model ribbon go Configuration Settings

2) Then select the Contours options:

3) Change the minimum elevation value set in the Contour Configuration dialog so it accomodates your lower elevations.
