FieldGenius Onboard a Leica Total Station with Captivate

When FieldGenius is installed onboard a Leica Total Station, such as TS16 / TS60 / MS60, you may come across the following error message:

Invalid communication settings for instrument. Port may already be in use.

This is because Leica Captivate has not launched yet on the Total Station, so the GeoCOM port is not being enabled for FieldGenius to connect to the Total Station.

To bypass this issue, use the following workaround:

- Turn on your Total Station and exit out of FieldGenius and/or Captivate so that you are on the desktop screen.

- Copy the Captivate shortcut icon on the desktop.

- Go to My Device > Windows > StartUp and paste the Captivate shortcut there.

- While in the StartUp folder, delete the FieldGenius shortcut so that only the Captivate one is in this folder.

- Restart the Total Station.

When you turn on your total station now, the first application to start up will be Leica Captivate, but it should close automatically after the loading screen has appeared. After, if you launch FieldGenius from the shortcut on the desktop, the error message should no longer be present, and it should connect automatically to the total station.
