MicroSurvey STAR*NET 12
STAR*NET has been trusted to deliver high quality adjustments since 1986. It has become the industry standard in many regions and is globally recognized among land surveyors today. MicroSurvey STAR*NET provides efficient data management, editing, and analysis tools, thorough reports, and the flexibility to easily integrate data from multiple hardware sources and manufacturers. STAR*NET 12 brings a significant reduction in the processing time for computing adjustments, easier data flow from field files into STAR*NET, support for future versions of MicroSurvey FieldGenius and Leica Evidence Recorder, and an updated library of coordinate systems.
What’s New in Version 12
What’s New
- We made a significant investment in improving our algorithms with a focus on the speed of large adjustments. In internal testing, we are seeing a 50-95% reduction in the time required to process depending on the number of sideshots included: the higher number of sideshots, the greater the improvement.
- The conversion utilities are now included with all edition levels of STAR*NET as import options, and are not listed in the Windows start menu, but launched directly from the Input menu of the software. This offers a faster and more seamless experience for you when importing data.
- The conversion utilities output directory now defaults to the containing directory of the currently open STAR*NET Project file (*.snproj), with the same filename as the selected input file. If you choose to save your files in a different location, the browse button can still be used to select a different name or location.
- After running a conversion utility, the created *.dat file will be added to the currently open project automatically, no longer will you need to manually add it.
- MicroSurvey FieldGenius 11.6 and Leica Evidence Recorder 11.9 have changed the format of the BP (Base Point) record from decimal degrees (DD) to degrees minutes seconds (DMS), we support this change in STAR*NET 12 and use the correct formatting.
- We have updated the coordinate system library to include many new coordinate systems, notably the Australian MGA2020 system using the GDA2020 datum and GRS80 ellipsoid.
Bug Fixes
- Running adjustments through the command line interface is no longer interrupted by the licensing dialog.
- Network plot error ellipses would sometimes be drawn in the wrong orientation, and the Z component was sometimes inverted.
- Detect Sideshots would not identify single measurements in a 2D project.
- We fixed two defects related to importing OPUS reports, one related to a formatting change in some newer reports and a change to OPUS-S extended reports for ITRF coordinates.
- Resolved a crash related to the .OPUS Factor and .OPUS Centering inline commands.
Important Notes
Activating or Updating your USB License Key
- Software licenses are stored on the USB key. These must be activated after a new purchase, and usually require manual updates when new versions of MicroSurvey STAR*NET are released.
- The process is the same for both; click here for detailed instructions.
- The USB License Manager program is automatically installed with MicroSurvey STAR*NET; it can be found in the STAR*NET folder in your start menu. Open it with your USB key inserted and click the “Update Key with New Information” button.
- You must have an internet connection to use the USB License Manager. You may download the program and install it on another computer to update keys when corporate policy and firewalls prevent access from your work network.
Annual Maintenance Subscription (AMS) Program
- If your AMS has expired, you may not be able to update your key to the current version of MicroSurvey STAR*NET.
- For a detailed explanation of the AMS program and how we use product numbers and USB keys to license our software, please review the following article.
- Each key has a different AMS plan, so multiple keys may not have the same expiry date.
- You can confirm your AMS expiry date by reviewing the About screen found in the Help menu.
If your AMS has expired, you can phone us at 1-800-668-3312 or 1-250-707-0000 to renew it. Without a current maintenance subscription plan, you may not be able to update your key to work with the new version.
