This series of articles will go over several examples of drawing recovery methods, depending on the scenario your drawing files are currently in:
Saved with Errors
In this scenario, upon certain recovery, the program will make a version of your drawing with "_SavedWithErrors" appended to it. This happens when the program is able to start saving, but something causes it to be in an incomplete state.
Take note of the file size difference between both files. Notice how the current drawing version with "_SavedWithErrors" has a much smaller file size then the backup file. This indicates that most data within that drawing was lost, so there is not much point trying to recover it. So instead, we will recover using the backup file:
- Make sure you can view file extensions, as mentioned in the article Windows Settings to "Unhide" File Extensions and Hidden Folders
- Create a new folder in this location called "Backup". Move the .DWG and .MSZ, if present, files into this location. (if you don't want to save this backup, simply delete those two files instead)
- Rename the .BAK file to .DWG
- Rename the .MBZ file to .MSZ, if present
- Open the drawing as normal
As with any of these scenarios, please contact Technical Support if you are seeing this happen frequently, or if any of the these or other recovery methods are not working for you.
