9.2.0 Notes

New Features (MicroSurvey CAD 2009 9.2.0)
  • Updated CAD Engine
    • IntelliCAD 6.5 Engine
MicroSurvey CAD 2009 is now built on the latest IntelliCAD engine, IntelliCAD 6.5. For a list of updated features and fixes, see below.
  • Active Coordinate Editor
    • Multiple Coordinate Systems
The Active Coordinate Editor can be configured to display your point coordinates as transformed into up to 2 cartesian systems and 2 geodetic system.
    • Draw Coordinate Tables
Create coordinate tables and/or coordinate conversion tables in your drawing by selecting the columns and rows you want to include from the Active Coordinate Editor.
  • Input/Output Scale Factors
    • Input Scale Factor works with All Commands
The Input Scale Factor specified in the General Configuration Options screen can now be applied to ALL distance inputs in the program, by specifying an "s" (for scale) suffix after the distance, for example 100s or 100S. Scaling was previously limited to only the MicroSurvey commands, but now also works with all CAD drawing, modification, and settings commands. Use the s suffix anywhere you can enter distances, including at the command line, in dialog boxes, and even when typing coordinate values like "100s,100s".
    • Inverse between Input Scale Factor and Output Scale Factor
The Input Scale Factor and Output Scale Factor fields on the General Configuration Options screen have been linked together, so you can now automatically set one as the inverse of the other with the press of a button.
    • Copy Output Scale Factor to Distance Labeling Scale Factors
A new Scale Factors dialog lets you easily configure all scale factors (Input Scale factor, Output Scale Factor, and five Distance Labeling Scale Factors) in one screen with no calculations required.
    • Automatic Blunder Detection
When your Input Scale Factor and Output Scale Factor values are not inverses of each other, or when the Output Scale Factor does not match your Distance Labeling Scale Factors, warning will appear to help you correct any potential issues.
    • Scale Factor Check on FieldGenius/RAW/RW5 File Import
When importing a RAW or RW5 file (including FieldGenius projects), the scale factors specified in the RAW file and in the General Configuration Options screen will be compared as a validation check, and if they do not match a Scale Factor dialog (see above) appears to help you correct any potential issues.
    • Scale Factor Setup on FieldGenius Export
When exporting a FieldGenius Project, a new option is available which will write the scale factor to the new project's raw file.
    • LISP Programming Extensions
Four new Lisp routines are available for your custom programming needs. New commands: (get_output_scale_factor), (set_output_scale_factor x), (get_input_scale_factor), (set_input_scale_factor x).
  • Geodetic Coordinate Conversions
    • Remember Last Used Coordinate Systems
When selecting coordinate systems, the last used system will be remembered as a default and automatically selected again the next time you use the same command.
    • Recently Used Coordinate Systems
When selecting coordinate systems, a list of your most recently used systems is available for quickly selecting your typical settings.
  • LandXML Import/Export
    • XML Import
A new XML Import command allows you to select any LandXML file to import the following data types from it: CgPoints (as Point Coordinates), PlanFeatures (as Smart Lines/Arcs), Parcels (as Lots), and Surfaces. New command: _LANDXML_IN
    • XML Export
A new XML Export command allows you to write a LandXML file containing the following data types from your drawing: Point Coordinates (as CgPoints), Smart Lines/Arcs (as PlanFeatures), Lots and Blocks (as Parcels), Surfaces (as Surfaces). New commands: _LANDXML_OUT and _LANDXML_OUT_RANGE

  • 3D Polyline Utilities
    • Insert Vertex
Insert one or more consecutive vertices in a 3D Polyline by selecting two adjacent vertices, such that new vertices will be inserted evenly between them with their elevations adjusted to fit a linear interpolation. New command: PEDIT_RI
    • Delete Vertex
Delete one or more consecutive vertices in a 3D Polyline by selecting two vertices, such that all vertices between them will be removed. New command: _PEDIT_RD
    • Interpolate Vertex
Interpolate one or more consecutive vertices in a 3D Polyline by selecting two vertices, such that all vertices between them will have their elevations adjusted to fit a linear interpolation. New command: PEDIT_RZ
  • Lot Closures & Plan Check
    • Pick Text Labels for Lot Closures / Plan Check
Check your plan by using the new "Pick" buttons on the Lot Closure dialog, to select line and curve labels for calculating a closure based on the text labels.
    • Delete Lot Closures
A command is now available in the MsTools menu to delete existing Lot Closures from your drawing and database. New command: _MS_DEL_LOT_CLOSURE
    • Lot Closure Dialog Improvements
The Lot Closure dialog was cleaned up and made easier to use. Specifically...
      • The current entry field is now highlighted by a green box. This helps speed up keyboard entry when defining lots.
      • All data fields now immediately appear after selecting "Line" or "Curve", previously you were required to press Enter or click OK to make the next option appear which was not intuitive.
      • "Pick" buttons were added beside each distance and direction field, which allow you to select a text entity from your drawing to use for the lot definition.
      • "Pick All" buttons were added beside the Line and Curve fields, which allow you to select multiple text entities from your drawing to use for the lot definition.
      • "Swap" buttons were added beside each direction field, to reverse the direction of the currently displayed angle.
      • The current leg is now temporarily shown on your drawing as soon as enough data has been defined for that leg so that it can be visually reviewed before advancing to the next leg and drawing it in.
      • Removed Bearing/Azimuth and Feet/Metric controls, in favor of using the drawing's units settings as defined in the General Configuration Options dialog.
      • Removed OK buttons, in favour of having all fields immediately visible on the dialog.
      • Removed NW, NE, SW, SE quadrant bearing buttons, which users found confusing and unnecessary.
      • Removed Zoom/Pan controls which were previously necessary for older CAD engines, in favour of using real-time pan and zoom from your mouse.
      • Removed Current Coordinate text, which users found confusing and unnecessary. Current position is still indicated by an arrow icon in the drawing.
      • Realigned similar options to make the dialog more intuitive.
  • AutoRoute/Roading
    • Spiral Curves
Horizontal Alignments can now be created with Curve-Spiral and Spiral-only curves. (This is in addition to the existing Spiral-Curve and Spiral-Curve-Spiral curves.)
    • Road Templates by Grade
The Template Editor now allows for input of Grade values for each zone. (This is in addition to the previously required Height values).
  • Sewers
    • Complete Overhaul
There were so many fixes to the sewers commands, that it is practically a new feature. Sewers routines have not worked reliably for several versions.
    • Network Layout Updates
Sewer networks are now updated automatically when a structure is deleted, to keep the lines flowing past the deleted structure.
    • Sewer Browser Command
Our new Sewer Browser command lets you easily work with multiple network layouts. New command: _SEWERBROWSE
    • Query Structure Command
Our new Query Structure command lets you see information about any structures in your network. New command: _QUERYSTRC
  • Traverse Data
    • Show Traverse Graphically
A new option in the Show Traverse command now allows lines to be drawn showing SK stake records.
    • Detect Invalid Records on Import
When importing a RAW or RW5 file (including FieldGenius projects), each line is verified that it contains the correct number of data fields. This is because importing some RAW files which contained invalid records could cause a crash (ie, LS records containing an HR but not an HI).
    • Detect Current RAW File on Import
When importing FieldGenius projects containing multiple RAW files, the FieldGenius project's INI file is checked to detect the current raw file, and that is set as the current Traverse after import.
  • Quick Posts & Symbol Librarian
    • New Survey Libraries
Two new Automap Libraries, Survey-M1 (Metric) and Survey-I1 (Imperial) have been provided which include an improved description list and an improved default layering structure.
    • Quick Posts with Wipeouts
New Quick Post blocks are included which use Wipeouts instead of a Trimming Radius to hide details behind/inside the blocks. You must load the new MSCAD_WIPEOUT.CSV AutoMAP Library instead of the default MSCAD.CSV AutoMAP Library to use the wipeout versions of the Quick Posts.
    • Symbol Librarian Posts with Wipeouts
New Symbol Library blocks are included which use Wipeouts to hide details behind/inside the blocks.
    • Misc Improvements
The ICI_AI and ICM_AI blocks (and their wipeout-version counterparts) were modified to remove extraneous points that were contained in the blocks.
  • Updated Interface
    • Toolbar and menu icons
To match the updated IntelliCAD 6.5 interface, all of the MicroSurvey icons have also been improved to 24-bit color.
    • Digitizer Tablet Support
Updated digitizer tablet overlay and configuration setup files have been created, please see the Tablet Setup topic in the help file.

  • Check the spelling of text
You can check the spelling of single-line text, multiline text, paragraph text, attributes, attribute definitions, and dimension text. Additional features include loading dictionaries from different sources, including various languages, and adding your own words to a custom dictionary.
  • Copy multiple entities
Now it’s easier to copy multiple entities. IntelliCAD defaults to prompting for additional copies of selected entities during the Copy command.
  • Work with additional image formats
The number of image formats available for drawings has been expanded. You can include images in the following formats: ECW, JPG 2000, ERS, ALG, HDR, DAT, DOQ, FST, NTF, ASC, IMG, DEM, DDF, DT0 and DT1, and HDF (including MET, L1R, and L1G).
  • Layer toolbar
You can now use the Layer toolbar to specify layout-specific layer settings. The Layer toolbar dynamically sizes, making it easier to manage large layer lists or drawings with long layer names.
  • Customize the status bar and menus using DIESEL
You can use DIESEL from the command line, in MNU menu files, and in LISP to customize the status bar and menus.
  • Use new and enhanced system variables
New or enhanced system variables include: AUTOSNAP, COPYMODE, DCTCUST, DCTMAIN, DCTMAINPATH, DIMTFAC, POLARADDANG, POLARANG, POLARDIST, POLARMODE, SNAPTYPE, and TRACKPATH.
Important Fixes (MicroSurvey CAD 2009 9.2.0)
  • Coordinate Calculations
    • [2394] MSAudit - Running an MSAudit would cause the labels for any points created using the Auto-Add Points to Objects command to disappear.
    • [2483] Helmerts - Local IDs containing alpha characters were not transformed when the Select option is selected in the Helmert's Transformation Summary dialog.
    • [2486] Inverse - Vertical distances were being scaled by the Output Scale Factor if it was turned on. Only the horizontal components of the distances are now being scaled.
    • [2443] Point IDs - Alphanumeric Point IDs containing leading zeros after a letter would not increment as expected. For example, a01 would increment to a2 instead of a02.
    • [2588] MTM27 Transformations - Coordinate Transformations using the MTM27 systems were incorrect due to wrong Central Meridian values, this has been corrected.
  • Line/Arc Calculations
    • [2345] Line Labels - Bearing Labels with 4 or more spaces after the Quadrant would cause a crash.
    • [2481] Line Labels - Occasionally line labels would be drawn over top of the line rather than offset from it.
    • [2450] Lot Closure - The ms_lot_closure command reversed the curve deltas (ie, 270 degrees instead of 90 degrees), causing area calculations to be incorrect. NOTE: This is not the standard Lot Closure command that is initiated through the MsTools menu (ms_new_lot_closure), it is an old command that can only be started at the command line.
    • [2443] XYZ Coding - Alphanumeric Point IDs containing leading zeros after a letter (ie, "a01") could cause the program to lock up when processing XYZ-coded linework.
  • Traverse Calculations
    • [2446] Assistant - The "Least Squares" button in the MicroSurvey Assistant did not work, the dialog would flash but no command was started.
    • [2498] Very long descriptions in a FieldGenius or TDS RW5 Raw file would cause a crash. When this occurs, the description is now shortened to a valid length, a note record is added to the traverse indicating it was shortened, and a pop-up message also appears to notify you.
    • [2499] If a traverse contains any sideshots before the first setup, the traverse can no longer be re-coordinated because it contains invalid data.
    • [2501] If a traverse contains any sideshots before the first setup, the traverse can no longer be exported by the Star*Net Interface because it contains invalid data.
  • AutoRoute
    • [2256] Create Alignment - Prompts during the Create Alignment from Lines and Arcs command have been improved to avoid ambiguities when selecting the starting point and the starting segment.
    • [0649] Edit Alignment - Adding a new PVI in the middle of an existing verticle alignment did not work
    • [2276] Edit Alignment - Spirals were missing the Curve-Spiral option which was introduced in a previous MSCAD 2008 service pack.
    • [0610] Label Alignment - When labeling a "NewPt" at any station on a curve, the label would be drawn to the EC of that curve, not to the specified station.
    • [1921] Label Alignment - When labeling stations, points created at X+00.00 stations were labelled with an incorrect description of X+000.00. (This only affected X+00.00 stations, others were created properly.)
    • [2329] Label Alignment - The Label Existing Points option would calculate incorrect station/offset information if the points had a non-zero elevation, due to using slope distances instead of horizontal distances.
    • [2383] Label Alignment - When labeling a "NewPt" along a Spiral-Curve-Spiral segment, the new point was not created at the correct position.
    • [1326] Cross Sections - A Cross Section was not being generated for the last station along an alignment
    • [1536] Cross Sections - If cross sections are generated for 2 of more surfaces, the "Fit to Section" option was not scaling the grid correctly to fit both sections.
    • [1584] Cross Sections - The cross section of the original ground was not always generated correctly, sometimes only half of the section was drawn.
    • [1955] Cross Sections - If cross sections for one alignment were drawn, then cross sections for another alignment were drawn, the second set of sections were drawn over top of the first set of sections in their sheets, not in the second set of sheets.
    • [2245] Cross Sections - Generate Cross Sections Across Full Surface could cause the program to crash in some situations.
    • [2258] Cross Sections - If cross sections for one alignment were drawn, then cross sections for another alignment were drawn, the second set of sections were drawn over top of the first set of sections in their sheets, not in the second set of sheets.
    • [2259] Cross Sections - Weird output at command line would sometimes occur when creating cross sections, although the section was drawn properly.
    • [2317] Cross Sections - Odd start station / station interval combinations were not incrementing from the start station. For example, if your start station was 5, and your station interval was 10, cross sections would be expected at stations 5,15,25,etc... but they would be drawn at stations 5,10,20,etc...
    • [2321] Cross Sections - When more than 1 alignment exists in a drawing, not all of the cross-sections for the second alignment would be plotted.
    • [2333] Cross Sections - Cross Sections were not always generated at transition points for the start and end of curves. This affected alignments which were defined by picking Lines and Arcs, not arcs defined by editing a POT.
    • [2237] Extract Profile - Extract Existing Ground Profile command does not always follow the horizontal alignment properly, it will go from one POT to the closest POT to it, not necessarily to the next POT in the alignment.
    • [2257] Extract Profile - Extract Existing Ground Profile command would ask you to select the alignment you want to profile twice in a row, it now only asks once.
    • [2261] Design Surface - When the Start Stations of a horizontal alignment and a vertical alignment are different, an incorrect design surface was generated.
    • [0607] XML/FieldGenius Export - If a horizontal alignment was created using the "Create Using Lines and Arcs" command, if that alignment was exported to an XML file the alignment would be exported with an extra line segment before and after each arc segment.
  • Sewers
    • [1205] Many sewers routines did not work properly.
    • [1926] Manual Profile command did not work properly.
    • [1957] Stationing using an alignment with Spirals did not work properly.
    • [2066] Sewer Tags did not show the correct Invert Out.
    • [2067] Sewer structure numbering did not always increment properly, would skip point numbers.
    • [2320] Sewer structure numbering skips a number after changing structure parameters.
    • [2323] Invert In and Invert Out both always showed the same values.
    • [2324] Manual Profile - Slopes always showed zero instead of the correct value.
    • [2326] Many sewers problems.
    • [2327] Many sewers problems.
    • [2330] Stationing was incorrectly calculated as from the center of one station to the far end of the next structure - causing the length of the profile to be too large by the radius of the structure.
    • [2331] Rim elevations would be applied to the incorrect structure when the STA-OFFSET-RIM command was used.
    • [2332] Auto Profile - The surface drawn above the Auto Profile was not being drawn correctly.
    • [2397] Incorrect pipe grades were listed on the pipe tags.
    • [2400] Auto Profile - Wrong drop-through was drawn on the profile grid.
    • [2401] Deleting a structure did not work correctly.
    • [2402] Table of Structures could show incorrect Inver values.
    • [2406] Plan view of Sewer Network displayed slope distances on the pipe tags, this should show horizontal distances.
  • Surface Modeling
    • [2206] Volumes - Volume Reports written to the command line did not include the "Area", "Positive Volume", "Negative Volume", and "Net Volume" column headers that were included when the report was exported to an ASCII file.
    • [2526] MSFlatten - If a profile is drawn without a grid, the baseline is drawn with an invalid elevation which can lead to a crash if viewed through the CAD Lines Dialog.
    • [2136] Erase Selected - This command was missing from the MsModeling | Utilities | General Utilities menu in MSCAD 2008.

Note: The three following items are "under-the-hood" changes only, there is no change to the interface/procedures/options when running the surface modeling routines in MSCAD 2009 compared to previous versions.

    • [2181] Settings - The Configuration File Options dialog has been updated and improved, it was converted from LISP to C++. (New command: _SURF_CNFG_DLG)
    • [2181] Settings - The Configuration Settings dialog has been updated and improved, it was converted from LISP to C++. (New command: _CNFG_FILE_DLG)
    • [2152] The entire set of Surface Modeling routines have been updated and improved, they were converted from C to C++ to allow for upcoming Unicode capabilities.
  • LISP Programming Extensions
    • [2492] The following lisp commands were not working: (set_scale_factor xx.xx), (set_coordinate_decimal_places x), (set_stationing_decimal_places x), (set_slope_decimal_places x).

    • [82047] Freeze/Thaw Layers - A crash could occur when freezing and/or thawing layers in drawings containing splines.
    • [82034] Close Drawing - A crash could occur when closing a drawing or exiting the program.
