Grid to Ground functionality when performing Conventional Surveys with Fieldgenius

Many users take advantage of FieldGenius to store points, perform COGO calculations and collect points using total station operations in either grid or ground referenced Coordinate Systems. The state of the coordinate database is determined by procedures and the Scale Factor assigned to your project.

The scale factor setting can be accessed from the Menu Home screen as shown below:

Ground to Grid:

When a scale factor other than 1.0000 is entered in the project Scale factor field, the operator can:

  1. base the survey on grid referenced coordinate values
  2. perform checks or staking operations to grid referenced points
  3. take measurements with an edm and produce new coordinates that are grid referenced by applying a scale factor to the measurement
  4. perform COGO calculations in which ground distances are input and are scaled so that new coordinates are grid referenced
  5. perform COGO inquiries and be presented with answers that are shown in both ground and grid.
  6. connect to a GPS device and store or stake points that are also grid referenced

An example of an inverse inquiry showing grid and ground results:

Ground Only

When a scale factor equaling 1.0000 is entered in the scale factor field, the operator can:

  1. base the survey on ground referenced coordinate values
  2. perform checks or stake to to ground referenced points
  3. take measurements with an edm and calculate new coordinates that are ground referenced
  4. perform COGO calculations in which ground distances are input and produce coordinates that are ground referenced
  5. perform COGO inquiries and be presented with answers that are shown as ground distances.

NOTE: Scale factor can be calculated at any time by selecting a stored point or lat/long value in this dialog:
