Important Announcement re. 32-bit MicroSurvey Applications
Effective November 1, 2018 MicroSurvey Software Inc. will no longer produce 32-bit versions of MicroSurvey CAD, MicroSurvey embeddedCAD, MicroSurvey inCAD and MicroSurvey STAR*NET.
As the MicroSurvey product lines advance, so does the underlying technology that powers our computers and operating systems. While specialized 64-bit processors have been around for decades, their use in personal computers have become widespread since the releases of Windows XP x64 Edition in 2005, Windows Vista in 2006 and especially Windows 7 in 2009. The primary benefit of 64-bit architecture is that a system can exceed 4 GB of addressable memory and today it is common for a personal computer to have 16 GB, 32 GB or more of RAM.
MicroSurvey has been producing 64-bit software for nearly a decade, beginning with 64-bit versions of MicroSurvey inCAD 2010, MicroSurvey embeddedCAD 2011, MicroSurvey CAD 2015 and STAR*NET 9. This decade of experience has made us experts in 64-bit software development, and we are well past the minor growing pains that were experienced early in this technological transition.
Our analysis of market trends and our customer base has shown that the 64-bit versions of these MicroSurvey products have become predominant over the past several years, and in 2018 over 97% of MicroSurvey installations are on a 64-bit system. By focusing on only the 64-bit versions of these products, we will be able to provide more bug fixes, new features and faster updates to our customer base. It should be noted that MicroSurvey FieldGenius is not affected by this change.
MicroSurvey Software Inc. will continue to distribute both 32-bit and 64-bit versions of its current and legacy products through the MicroSurvey Helpdesk.
MicroSurvey Software Inc. will continue to provide technical support to any client with a current Annual Maintenance Subscription contract for both 32-bit and 64-bit versions of its current and supported legacy products.
