MicroSurvey embeddedCAD 2027 Release Notes

MicroSurvey embeddedCAD 2027

MicroSurvey brings intuitive calculation tools for land surveyors to popular drafting platforms, including BricsCAD®, IntelliCAD and AutoCAD®.  MicroSurvey embeddedCAD 2027 runs on the AutoCAD OEM 2027 engine, which provides the latest and greatest from Autodesk.

What’s New in Version 27.0

What’s New

  • Now running the latest AutoCAD OEM 2027 engine for the best performance and stability from Autodesk.

Commands:

  • _bsearch — Displays the Convert dialog box with options to convert selected entities and identical instances into blocks.
  • _-bsearch — Command-line version of BSEARCH; converts selected entities and identical instances into blocks.
  • _detectclose — Ends the detection review.
  • _detectprimary — Specifies the detected instance from which a new block definition is created.
  • _detectreviewnext — Displays the next set of detected objects.
  • _detectreviewprev — Displays the previous set of detected objects.
  • _-geometrycleanupopen — Opens the Geometry Cleanup palette.
  • _-geometrycleanupclose — Closes the Geometry Cleanup palette.
  • _geometryerrorreviewclose — Exits the Geometry Cleanup review mode.
  • _imageasyncwait — Ensures that background-loading raster images are complete before proceeding.

System Variables:

  • texttoattribute — Controls whether text variations will be searched for conversion into block attributes when text objects are selected in the BSEARCH command.
  • bconvertlayer — Controls whether the object layer in the block definition will become Layer 0 after objects are converted into blocks.
  • bsearchincludeexistingblocks — Controls whether existing block instances are selected by the BSEARCH command by default.
  • blockexcludecolor — Sets the colour highlighting for identified instances that should not be converted into blocks.
  • blockincludecolor — Sets the colour highlighting for identified instances that can be converted into blocks.
  • blocktargetcolor — Sets the colour highlighting for the instance from which the new block definition is created.
  • imageasync — Controls whether images are asynchronously loaded in the background during drawing file opening.
  • revcloudlayer — Specifies a default layer for new revision clouds.
  • *revcloudapproxarclen — Stores the current approximate arc length for revision clouds.
  • revcloudscalemode — Controls the scaling of arc lengths for new revision clouds based on the DIMSCALE system variable.
  • tablelayer — Specifies a default layer for new tables.
  • *_toolpalettepath — Controls the path(s) used for the Tool Palette Windows.
  • viewportlayer — Specifies a default layer for new viewports.
  • *geometrycleanupstate — Indicates whether the Geometry Cleanup palette is open or closed.
  • *geometrycleanupzoompan — Controls whether clicking a node in the Geometry Cleanup tree view auto-zooms to the highlighted instances.

What’s Improved

  • The Active Coordinate Editor row selections using click + drag, and shift + click are now much faster.
  • The MicroSurvey Title Block command was renamed to MS_TB to not confict with the AutoCAD Table command alias.

Bug Fixes

  • When the MicroSurvey labelling defaults were set to use a Windows font (Like Arial.ttf), each time the drawing is opened, an error message was shown “Error: Unable to find font file”. The filepaths are now stored and read correctly.
  • Loading drawings made in earlier versions of the program now brings over any applicable label scale factor changes made in those drawings:
  • MicroSurvey embeddedCAD 2023 and earlier will only have the first 5 styles labelling scale factors (because they only had 5), MicroSurvey embeddedCAD 2024 and onwards will have all 10 styles labelling scale factors.
  •  The Job Configuration Settings (Job Defaults) was not consistently respecting the “Set these defaults as permanent” checkbox when creating a new drawing with another drawing already open.
  • When the colour of a polylineline had been changed from the colour defined by a layer, the CAD Polyline Computations dialog (double clicking on the polyline) would revert the colour to that of the layer. Polylines will now retain their set colour.
  • When creating a Survey Group and applying filters, the labels of points which were included in a CAD pick but not the filter are also added to the Survey Group, while the point nodes are not. None of the points which were excluded by the filter should have been getting added.
  • Fixed a minor formatting problem on the Leica DBX import dialog.

Important Notes

Compatibility and Upgrades

MicroSurvey embeddedCAD will read and write to *.DWG drawing files and our *.MSZ database interchangeably with our other CAD products: MicroSurvey CAD, inCAD, and SurveyTools for BricsCAD. There are no compatibility issues or workarounds required to use saved MicroSurvey databases between these products. We have supported the *.MSZ format since 2008, and offer conversion utilities for older formats which are described here.

Activating or Updating your USB License Key

Software licenses are stored on the USB key.  These must be activated after a new purchase, and usually require manual updates when new versions of MicroSurvey embeddedCAD are released.

The process is the same for both; click here for detailed instructions.

The USB License Manager program is automatically installed with MicroSurvey embeddedCAD; it can be found in the embeddedCAD folder in your start menu.  Open it with your USB key inserted and click the “Update Key with New Information” button.

You must have an internet connection to use the USB License Manager.  You may download the program and install it on another computer to update keys when corporate policy and firewalls prevent access from your work network.

Customer Care Package (CCP)

In 2025, the Annual Maintenance Subscription (AMS) program was renamed to the Customer Care Package (CCP).

If your CCP has expired, you may not be able to update your key to the current version of MicroSurvey embeddedCAD.

For a detailed explanation of the CCP program and how we use product numbers and USB keys to license our software, please review the following article.

Each USB key and floating license has a different CCP plan, so multiple USB keys or floating licenses may not have the same expiry date.

You can confirm your CCP expiry date by reviewing the About screen found in the Help menu.

If your CCP has expired, you can phone us at 1-800-668-3312 or 1-250-707-0000 to renew it. Without a current customer care package plan, you may not be able to update your key to work with the new version.

MicroSurvey License Portal for Floating License Users

If you have purchased a floating license, you may visit our license page to review usage statistics on your license.

After purchase, you will be asked to create a login for the portal.

Log in to the portal, click "Licenses & Activations", then the desired license to review its details.

MicroSurvey License Server for Network License Users

If you have purchased a network license, you must download and install a copy of the MicroSurvey Network License software on your intended license server computer.

A password is required to install the License Server.

System Requirements

MicroSurvey embeddedCAD 2027 is compatible with 64-bit versions of Windows 11.

A free USB port is required for the USB License Key (local workstation or network server)

Full administrator rights are required to install MicroSurvey embeddedCAD 2027, but it can be run by limited user accounts

For detailed system requirements and recommendations, please review this online article.
